Appendix K: Additional Notes

The following should be noted after data migration.

  • The PCB units, decimal places and working grid must be set on the Status Bar.
  • All footprint preview colors are white until a footprint is edited and saved in eCADSTAR Library Editor. Editing a footprint sets the default library colors.
  • Layers will exist in the design technology in the following format: DIELECTRIC@Top_Elec. These layers can optionally be removed from the design technology, as they are initially required to migrate material information into the eCADSTAR board configuration. When migration is completed, they have no purpose in the eCADSTAR design.

Note
When using the design-level Technology Editor, it is essential to define the correct master or local design library path in the Product Settings dialog. If a correct library path is not set, then any changes that are applied in the design-level Technology Editor may cause the mapping from library layers to design layers to be removed from the PCB data. This can appear as a loss of data in the PCB design.

  • For a design set migrated with a hierarchical schematic, the PCB net names will not initially match the net names in the schematic.
  • When executing the Forward Annotation command, net names are synchronised. Messages are reported, such as the following.
  • info : Electrical Net $21 was deleted.
  • info : Electrical Net $22 was deleted.
  • info : Electrical Net $23 was deleted.
  • 1/$21
  • 1/$22
  • # Deleted Net
  • $21
  • $22
  • # Information
  • Net list changes have been made on the schematic.

Note
When this action has been applied, the net names are correctly synchronised and further edits are applied without these messages.

  • CADSTAR split power plane layers are migrated to eCADSTAR Positive/Negative layers. The CADSTAR templates are migrated to eCADSTAR, but the copper is not automatically generated. To generate the copper, select Generate/Delete Conductor Area > Each Layer on the Net / Route tab on the ribbon.
  • eCADSTAR does not support exclusion files for CADSTAR Forward Annotation and Back Annotation.
  • The library must be updated to mark parts that are required for only schematic or PCB designs. These parts are then excluded during the respective annotation processes.
  • CADSTAR 10.0 and earlier designs, which do not contain part information, will not create an eCADSTAR design part library.
  • After migration, layers named "Component_Area_Errors_A(_B)" may be present in the eCADSTAR PCB Editor design. This layer is generated if there are "open" shapes defined on the Placement Area layers in the CADSTAR data. The Placement Area layer data from CADSTAR is migrated to these layers. This indicates where there are errors in the CADSTAR data.
