Library Searcher
The Library Searcher panel allows you to search for parts, footprints or symbols within the respective areas of the library in eCADSTAR. Toggle the display of the Library Searcher panel as follows:
- On the status bar in eCADSTAR,
click
.
- On the eCADSTAR Library Editor and Part Editor ribbon, click Home > Searcher > Library Searcher.
- On Footprint Editor ribbon, and Symbol Editor click View > Display> Library Searcher.
- On the eCADSTAR Schematic Editor ribbon, click View > Display > Library Searcher.
- On the eCADSTAR PCB Editor ribbon, click View > Display > Library Searcher.
This panel is also displayed if you click in the relevant dialog
when adding parts, components and symbols in eCADSTAR.
Search for
Allows you to select whether parts, footprints or symbols are searched for in the Library Searcher panel.

If "Parts" is selected in the "Search for" box
You can search by filtering on the attributes within a parts class, as well as on part name. The filtered items are displayed in the Part name table. Click on a part name in the Part Name table to display its attributes and a preview in the displayed Attributes dialog. If you increase the width of the Library Searcher panel sufficiently by dragging its side, the attributes and preview are displayed within the Library Searcher panel, rather than in the Attributes dialog.
If you specify a hyperlink for a user-defined attribute in the Type column of the Attribute Manager dialog, then it can be launched by right-clicking it and selecting Open Hyperlink on the assist menu in the Library Searcher panel. If a hyperlink is not specified, then the Open Hyperlink command is made unavailable.

Part Class | Allows you to display the part attributes in the Attribute table that are associated with the Part
Class that you select.

Part Name | Enter a value on which to filter the parts that are displayed in the Part Name table. This value is not case sensitive. | |
Attribute table | Allows you to filter the parts that are displayed in the Part name table by entering a value in the Filter column for the relevant attribute. You can filter on values for multiple attributes. User-defined attributes can be selected. These are defined in the Attribute Manager dialog. | |
Attribute | The attributes that are used for filtering the search results. Click a cell in the Attribute column to select an attribute which is not a member of the part class that you select in the Part Class box. | |
Filter | Enter a value for the corresponding attribute and press Return. The parts in the Part name table are filtered using the value that you specify. Click a cell in the Filter column to activate it. You can then type in a value, or select a value from the displayed list. | |
Part Name table | Displays the part names that meet the criteria specified in
both the Part Name box and the Attribute table. Point the cursor at a row
in the Part name table to display
the Attributes
dialog. This dialog displays the attributes of the relevant part,
and a preview.

Description | Displays the description of the corresponding part. This value is set by clicking Edit > Part on the ribbon, and adding a value in the Description box in the Detail tab. |
If "Footprints" is selected in the "Search for" box
You can search by filtering on footprint attributes and the footprint name. The filtered items are displayed in the FootprintName table. Click on a footprint name in the FootprintName table to display its attributes and a preview in the displayed Attributes dialog. If you increase the width of the Library Searcher panel sufficiently by dragging its side, the attributes and preview are displayed within the panel, rather than in the Attributes dialog.

If Footprintsis selected in the Search for box, then this setting allows you to specify whether only non-electrical footprints are listed in Footprint Name table. These are footprints with a Pin Count value of 0. | |

Not selected | All footprints are listed in Footprint Name table. This includes both electrical and non-electrical footprints. | |
Attribute | The attributes that are used for filtering the search results.

If you add a non-electrical footprint to a board in eCADSTAR PCB Editor, it is defined as a part and assigned the same name as the footprint.
If "Symbols" is selected in the "Search for" box
You can search by filtering on symbol attributes and the symbol name. The filtered items are displayed in the SymbolName table. Click a value in the SymbolName table to display its attributes and a preview in the displayed Attributes dialog. If you increase the width of the Library Searcher panel sufficiently by dragging its side, the attributes and preview are displayed within the panel, rather than in the Attributes dialog.

Assist menu
If you right-click a row in the Part Name table, Footprint Name table or Symbol Name table, then the following assist menu is displayed.
Item | Description |

Send Row | Allows you to send a selected item to an appropriate running
command. Alternatively, click ![]()
Note The Add Part, Add Symbol or Add Component dialogs are not displayed if another command is running. |
Clear Selection | If you lock the display of the Attributes
dialog for a particular value by clicking a row in the Library
Searcher panel, then selecting Clear
Selection removes this lock. Alternatively:

Copy | The contents of the selected row are copied to the clipboard. |
Resize Grid | For the relevant table in Library Searcher,
the columns are resized to the default width.
Note These columns are automatically resized to the default width when you select a new value in the Search for box. |
Copy Entire Table | For the relevant table in Library Searcher, the contents of the table are copied to the clipboard. |
