Alternate Footprints

Alternate footprints are different footprints that can be used with a part. They are often used if there is a manufacturing requirement for a different footprint, depending on the application or assembly process; for example, some sub-contract manufacturers are able to deal with smaller pads than others. Another potential requirement for an alternate footprint is for dual land patterns. These are sometimes used when a different source of a part means that the footprint is different. However, it is recommended that you consider adding a completely separate part number, in this case.

eCADSTAR allows you to assign alternate footprints to a part. Where footprints are provided in the training library, they are labelled "N" to represent "Normal".
