Rule Area Attributes

The Rule Area Attributes dialog allows you to configure a rule area. It is displayed by selecting Rule in the Area Fill (Polygon), Area Fill (Rectangle) or Area Fill (Circle) dialog, and then clicking Detail. The values that you specify for a rule area override the rules in the associated technology.

Design rule stack name

Different net

Value Description
String Set a clearance rule between different nets that is valid in the rule area.

Same net

ValueDescription
StringSet a clearance rule between the same nets that is valid in the rule area.

Hole/Area

ValueDescription
StringSet a clearance rule between the hole/layout area and the conductor object that is valid in the rule area.

Track width stack

ValueDescription
StringSet the route width stack name to be referred to in rule areas.
Note
When adding a template area to a rule area on the canvas: if the Minimum copper width is defined by Track width stack check box is selected in the PCB Editor: Application Settings, Area fill section, then the track width is ignored that is set for the rule area. The track width stack is applied that you specify in the Default track width stack box in the Rule Editor Dialog: Tracks Tab. However, this value is overridden by any values specified for the relevant net in the Design Rule tab, Track Width Stack column in the Constraint Browser: Signals section, Signals Tab or Constraint Browser: Signals section, Classes/Groups tab.

Differential pair rule stack

ValueDescription
[Differential pair rule stack]Select a track width and spacing rule for differential pair routing that is valid in the rule area. These are created in the Rule Editor Dialog: Differential Pairs tab.

Default via name

ValueDescription
Default PadstackThe default padstack set in the rule is referred to as the default padstack for rule areas.
StringSpecify the default padstack name to be referred to in rule areas.

Target layer

ValueDescription
All layersThe rule area is common to all layers.
[Layer name]The rule area is only valid for the specified layer.

Conditional padstack

Value Description
Conditional padstack table Allows you to select the padstacks that are used between the layers that you specify. For each padstack, specify the start layer and end layer using the From and To boxes, respectively.
FromDisplays the start layer of the padstack (integer equal to or greater than 1).
ToDisplays the end layer of the padstack (integer equal to or greater than From, but not exceeding the number of conductor layers).
NameFor the relevant row in the Conditional padstack table, the padstack is displayed that joins the specified layers.  Specify a padstack by clicking in this box, and selecting it from the displayed list.
From Specify the start layer of the padstack (integer equal to or greater than 1).
To Specify the end layer of the padstack (integer equal to or greater than From, but not exceeding the number of conductor layers).
Add Adds a new row in the Conditional padstack table using the From and To values that you specify.
