Area Fill (Polygon) / Component Area (Polygon)

The Area Fill (Polygon) command allows you to create an arbitrary-shaped area fill in Footprint Editor by selecting Area Fill in the Area Fill (Polygon) dialog. Alternatively, select Component Area to create an arbitrary-shaped component area for a footprint. In 3D View mode, the component area is displayed as a filled shape, in order to help you place the part on the board. As this might obscure the 3D model that is associated with the footprint, you can change the visibility of the component area by adjusting the view style settings for the associated layer. You can also specify the standoff height and maximum height of the component area in the Height (Standoff - Maximum) field. Launch this command in 2D View mode only by selecting Shape > Area Fill > Polygon on the ribbon.

Area Fill

Angle lock

Value Description
45-degree The angle between the sides of the figure to be input is limited to the following values.
  • 0
  • 45
  • 90
  • 135
  • 180
  • 225
  • 270
  • 315
90-degree The angle between the sides of the figure to be input is limited to the following values.
  • 0
  • 90
  • 180
  • 270
Free The angle between the sides of the figure to be input is not locked.

Pen width

Value Description
Real number equal to, or greater than 0. Set the pen width of the area fill to be generated.

Tangent arc

Value Description
ON A tangent arc, with the radius that is specified in the Radius of tangent arc field, is generated at the corner of a figure.
OFF The vertex is placed at the corner of a figure.

Radius of tangent arc

Value Description
Real number greater than 0. Set the radius of the tangent arc to be generated.

Note
If you create an area fill on a user-defined keepout layer, then you can select whether nets or area fills are allowed within the area fill. Select either Line allowed or Area fill allowed in the Properties Panel, Allow line/area fill box in Footprint Editor.

Height (Standoff - Maximum)

Value Description
Real number equal to, or greater than 0. Specify the standoff height and maximum height of the component area. The standoff height is the distance that components in the component area sit above the board. The maximum height is the maximum permissible height of components in the component area.

Layer name

Value Description
Layer name Specify the layer to which component areas are input.
