Using the 3D Compass
The 3D compass allows you to use the mouse to intuitively manipulate objects on the canvas in Footprint Editor, eCADSTAR PCB Editor, eCADSTAR PCB Viewer and in the Preview pane in the 3D Model Manager dialog. It is displayed at the lower-right side of the canvas when in 3D View mode.
Names and Descriptions of the 3D compass Operating Handles
Item | Description |
---|---|
Axis handle | The Axis handle is an arrow that moves parallel to the canvas.![]() |
Rotating handle | The Rotating handle is a circle, located vertically to each
axis, that rotates the canvas.![]() |
Plane handle | The Plane handle is a small circle, in the direction of each
axis, that switches the view position on the canvas. Double-click
the Plane handle to switch the view position. ![]() ![]() |
Operating the 3D compass
Item | Description |
---|---|
Free rotation | Drag a section, other than handles, to rotate the 3D compass
in any direction. The canvas is synchronized with the 3D compass,
and rotated.![]() |
Moving to an arbitrary axis direction | Drag an axis handle to move the canvas parallel to the axis
being dragged. This does not move the 3D compass. ![]() |
Rotating around an arbitrary axis | Drag a rotating handle to only rotate the 3D compass around
the axis being dragged. The canvas is synchronized with the 3D compass and rotated. ![]() |
Changing to an arbitrary plane position | Double-click a Plane handle to rotate the 3D compass so that
the target plane comes to the front. The canvas is synchronized with the 3D compass and rotated. ![]() |
Getting an arbitrary axis upright | Double-click a rotating handle to rotate the 3D compass so
that the axis corresponding to the target rotating handle comes
to the vertical position. The canvas is synchronized with the 3D compass and rotated. ![]() |
Resetting the coordinates of the gaze point to 0 | Double-click an axis handle to move the canvas so that the
gaze point coordinates of the target axis is reset to 0. This does not move the 3D compass. ![]() |
