Subtracting Shapes from an Object in eCADSTAR PCB Editor

The following procedures describe how to remove specified shapes from an object using the Subtract command. This command is only available in 2D View mode.

Selecting Shapes to Remove

  1. Click Shape > Reshape > Subtract Subtract on the eCADSTAR PCB Editor ribbon. The Subtract dialog is displayed.
  2. In the Figure to subtract box, click Selected shape.
  3. On the canvas, specify a shape that you want to remove from. Multiple shapes can be selected using the Ctrl key. If you select multiple shapes, click Selection End on the assist menu or double-click the last shape that you want to select.
  4. Specify an overlapping shape that you want to remove. Multiple shapes can be selected using the Ctrl key. If you select multiple shapes, click Apply on the assist menu or on the Subtract dialog. Alternatively, double-click the last shape that you want to select.

Adding Shapes to Remove

  1. On the eCADSTAR PCB Editor ribbon, click Shape > Reshape > Subtract Subtract. The Subtract dialog is displayed.
  2. In the Figure to subtract box, click Input shape.
  3. On the canvas, specify a shape that you want to remove from. Multiple shapes can be selected using the Ctrl key. If you select multiple shapes, click Selection End on the assist menu, or double-click the last shape that you want to select.
  4. Create an overlapping shape by clicking two or more positions on the canvas.
  5. Double-click to finish specifying the shape, or select End Shape on the assist menu. The specified shape is removed.

Target objects

The following are target objects for this command.

  • Line
  • Area fill/Area/Meshplane
  • Pad
  • Padstack

The following objects can be subtracted.

  • Line
  • Area fill/Area/Meshplane
  • Character/Component symbol
  • Hole
  • Pad
  • Padstack

Assist menu

When specifying the shape to subtract from, the following items can be selected by right-clicking the mouse:

Selection End (when you select multiple shapes)

Next

Undo

Exit

When you specify multiple shapes to subtract, with Selected shape specified in the Figure to subtract box, the following items can be selected by right-clicking the mouse:

Next

Undo

Exit

When you specify the shape to subtract, with Input shape specified in the Figure to subtract box, the following items can be selected by right-clicking the mouse:

Note
  • You cannot enter a subtracted object that intersects itself.
  • Rule area and board block areas cannot be selected for areas to be subtracted.
  • For a meshplane, the mesh position varies before and after subtraction.
