Understanding Pads

You can create pads in a range of standard shapes, as shown below. Until a pad is used in a padstack, footprint or PCB design, it is considered by eCADSTAR as just a shape, with no association to a layer. This means that a single pad definition can be used in a variety of ways. For example, as a solder resist, inner conductor or surface conductor shape. Basic shapes can also be virtual pads. These are used in footprints that are set as star points. Star points are junctions where connections to multiple signals are permitted. For example, a junction between analog and digital ground signals.
