Variant Text
The Variant Text dialog allows you to specify a text string, which is displayed for a specified variant of the design. The text has the same properties as non-variant text, which you can specify in the Add Text dialog. These include its position, rotation, font, etc. The specified text is shown on the canvas when you select the relevant variant in the Design Variation Dialog.
The Variant Text dialog is displayed by clicking the Details button in the Add Text dialog, Strings box in eCADSTAR PCB Editor. This is displayed when you select ON in the Variant field. If there are no variants in the current design, or you do not have a PCB Variant license, then the Details button is not displayed. You can also launch the Variant Text dialog from the Text row in the Properties Panel. For selected text in a variant design, point the cursor in the Value column and click the displayed button.
- Variant lists are added or deleted in eCADSTAR Schematic Editor, and passed to a design in eCADSTAR PCB Editor using Forward Annotation.
- If all variants are removed from a design, then the text string for the Master variant remains as regular text.
- If you copy variants from a board with a different variant structure, then a warning dialog is displayed. The variant text is corrected as follows.
- Data are deleted for variants that do not exist in the destination design.
- Variants that exist in the destination design, but are not in the copied variant text are added as an empty string.
- If the variant list of the destination design has only Master, then the data are copied as regular text.
