Checking Track-to-track Spacing for Differential Pairs

This topic outlines the procedures for checking and adjusting track-to-track spacing for track segments that you select on the canvas, and which are part of a differential pair. For further information, see: Differential Pair Spacing Check.

Checking track-to-track Spacing

  1. On the ribbon in eCADSTAR PCB Editor, select Report > Design Rule Checking > Differential Pair Spacing Check. This toggles on the Differential Pair Spacing Check command.
  2. If not already selected, select a track within a differential pair on the canvas. The Spacing Errors (Pin Pair) dialog is displayed. If there are spacing errors for track segments within the differential pair, then they are listed.
  3. If you select a row in the Spacing errors table, then the canvas is zoomed to show the selection. The current layer is changed to the layer of the selected track. If multiple rows are selected, then it is changed to the most common layer. Select multiple rows using the CTRL or Shift keys, or by dragging the cursor.

Adjusting track-to-track Spacing

  1. If an error is shown in the Spacing Errors (Pin Pair) dialog, then select it to display the relevant track segment on the canvas.
  2. Select Exit on the assist menu to toggle off the Differential Pair Spacing Check command.
  3. If the track is within a trunk.
  4. Launch the Regulate Trunk command by clicking Net / Route > Routing > Regulate Trunk on the ribbon.
  5. Click the track segment, and then select Update Widths/Spacings on the assist menu. This allows you to ensure that the trunk follows an assigned topology template.
  6. Click Yes in the confirmation dialog.
  1. If the track is not within a trunk, then increase the space between the tracks of the differential pair using the Move Track command.
  2. Toggle on the Differential Pair Spacing Check command.
  3. On the canvas, select the track that had the error and confirm that all errors are removed.

Note
Errors in the Spacing Errors (Pin Pair) dialog are not updated automatically when routing or constraints are changed.
