Configuring Clearance for Holes and Layout Areas
The following procedures describe how to specify minimum clearances for holes and layout areas. This is done in the Hole/Area sub-tab in the Conductor Clearance tab of the Rule Editor dialog. Configure clearance values in the following order.
- Create Design rule groups that comprise clearance values for holes and layout areas.
- Create Design rule stacks, and assign a relevant design rule group to each conductor layer in each design rule stack.
- Specify a design rule stack in the Default design rule stack box.
These procedures are described in more detail below.
Configure a Design Rule Group
A design rule group defines the clearances between holes and layout areas on a conductor layer.
- Enter a new name in the Design rule group box and click Add. The design rule group is moved to the Design rule group list.
- For each clearance element, enter a value in the cell of the Design rule group table where the row and column of the relevant clearance element intersect.
- To filter the display, toggle the buttons in the upper-right corner of the Design rule group section.
- In the Keepout area clearance section, specify the clearance between holes and layout areas and each type of keepout area.
You can add the same value to the whole table as follows:
- Press Ctrl+C to copy a value from the relevant cell in the Design Rule group table.
- Select all cells in the table.
- Press Ctrl+V to paste the copied value into all cells.
Set the Design Rule Stack
Design rule stacks allows you to assign a design rule group to each conductor layer in each design rule stack.
- In the Design rule stack section, define a new design rule stack and click Add. The design rule stack is moved to the Design rule stack list.
- For each conductor layer row in each Design rule stack in the Design rule stack table, select a design rule group in the Design rule group column.
Set the Default Design Rule Stack for the Board
Set the design rule stack for the board as follows: in the Default design rule stack box, select a design rule stack. The selected design rule stack defines the clearances that are applied by default for holes and layout areas.
