Comparing Design Rules

The following procedure describes how to compare the design rules specified in the Rule Editor dialog to a selected design rule in a design rule library. This is done using the Compare Design Rules dialog.

  1. Display the Compare Design Rules dialog as follows.
  2. When creating a new design rule library in eCADSTAR Library Editor, click Home > Compare > Compare Design Rules on the ribbon when the Rule Editor dialog is displayed.
  3. When editing a design rule library in eCADSTAR PCB Editor, click Compare design rules in the Rule Editor dialog.
  1. In the Compare Design Rules dialog, select a design rule library by clicking by the Design rule library box.
  2. In the Compare Design Rules dialog, select a technology library by clicking by the Associated Technology Library box.
  3. Filter the design rules that are displayed by entering values in the Name, Number of conductor layers and Technology boxes.
  4. Select a design rule in the Compare Design Rules dialog, and click Execute. The design rules that you set in the Rule Editor dialog are compared to the specified design rule, and the results shown in the Comparison Result dialog. For items in each area of the Rule Editor dialog, the following categories are used in the Comparison result column.
  5. Equal: the design rules are identical.
  6. Diff: the design rules are not identical.
  7. A only: the design rule is only present in the design rule being edited.
  8. B Only: the design rule is only present in the comparison target.
  1. Use the filter buttons at the top-right of the dialog to display or hide results in the above categories.
  2. To save the comparison results, click Save As and specify a location and name in the Save As dialog.
  3. Click Close to close the Comparison Result dialog.
