Measuring in 3D
The following procedure describes how to measure the shortest distance between two objects in 3D View mode in eCADSTAR PCB Editor or Footprint Editor, and then delete the measurement.
- On the ribbon in eCADSTAR PCB Editor or Footprint Editor, select Home > Dimension > 3D Measure. This launches the 3D Measure command. The canvas view is automatically set to 3D View mode.
- Toggle on Surface, Edge or Vertex in the 3D Measure dialog to enable the selection of the corresponding object on the canvas.
- Specify the start point of the measurement by clicking an object on the canvas. To highlight the next suggested start point in the same vicinity, right-click and select Next while pointing the cursor at a relevant object on the canvas.
- Specify the end point of the measurement by clicking
an object on the canvas. To highlight the next suggested end point
in the same vicinity, right-click and select Next
while pointing the cursor at a relevant object on the canvas. After
selecting an end point, a measurement line is shown on the canvas
with the following label.
[Measured distance]
([Distance in the X dimension], [Distance in the Y dimension], [Distance in the Z dimension]).
The measurement results are also shown in an Information box, which is displayed on the canvas. - To continue measuring distances, click another start point on the canvas.
- To delete a 3D measurement line, right-click the canvas and select Delete Single 3D Measurement on the assist menu. The 3D Measure dialog is temporarily hidden. When you click on a measurement line, it is deleted and the dialog is displayed again.
- Close the 3D Measure dialog by clicking the X button. All measurements are removed from the canvas.

Next | While pointing the cursor at a relevant object on the canvas, click Next to highlight the next suggested start or end point in the same vicinity. For example, if a highlighted object crosses two surfaces, then clicking Next highlights the other surface. |
Delete All 3D Measurements | Removes all created 3D measurements from the canvas. You cannot
undo this command. Note

Delete Single 3D Measurement | Allows you to select an individual 3D measurement line to remove
it from the canvas. If you select this option, then the 3D
Measure dialog is temporarily hidden. When you click on a
measurement line, it is deleted and the dialog is displayed
again. You cannot undo this command.
Note You cannot execute this command in 2D View mode. |
Undo | Reverts the last action that you make using the 3D Measure command. If your last action was launching the command, then it is closed. |
Cancel | Removes all 3D measurements from the canvas and closes the 3D Measure command. |
