Font setting Dialog

The Font setting dialog allows you to specify size and spacing criteria for fonts. Each row in the dialog represents a group of settings for font size and spacing. You can apply these settings to a dialog in eCADSTAR PCB Editor or Footprint Editor by browsing to the Font setting dialog, and selecting a row in the table. Clicking Apply or OK applies the settings to the relevant dialog. Rows that you create in the Font setting dialog can be duplicated or deleted using the buttons on the dialog, or by right-clicking in the Font Setting table and using the assist menu. This dialog is displayed by clicking Select in the Select font sizes field, in the Add Text dialog.

Note
When you add text to the canvas, eCADSTAR places each character within a box, which is not displayed. The values that you specify refer to the dimensions of this box, rather than the dimensions of the characters. The actual dimensions of characters will vary, depending on their position within this box. This is illustrated in the following image.

If you select 2 points in the Text mode field, then the position and dimensions of the text are set by specifying two points on the canvas. See Adding Text by Specifying Two Points.

Value   Description
Font Setting table   Allows you to create groups of settings for font size and spacing by specifying values in each row. Double-click in the white cells to make them editable. The gray cells cannot be edited. Press Return, or click another cell to add the specified value to the cell.
Width For a group of font settings represented by a row, specify the width of characters by double-clicking in this cell and typing a value. This value refers to the dimensions of the non-displayed box which contains the character, rather than the actual width of the character.
Height For a group of font settings represented by a row, specify the height of characters by double-clicking in this cell and typing a value. This value refers to the dimensions of the non-displayed box which contains the character, rather than the actual height of the character.
Character spacing For a group of font settings represented by a row, the spacing between characters is displayed. This value is specified in the Character spacing % column, as a percentage of the Width value. This value refers to the spacing between the non-displayed boxes which contain the characters, rather than the actual spacing between characters.
Line spacing For a group of font settings represented by a row, the spacing between lines of characters is displayed. This value is specified in the Line spacing % column, as a percentage of the Height value. This value refers to the spacing between the non-displayed boxes which contain the characters in each line of text.
Pen width For a group of font settings represented by a row, specify the pen width of characters by double-clicking in this cell and typing a value. Because of the method used by eCADSTAR to place text on the canvas, the values that you specify do not refer to the units in the design.
Character spacing % For a group of font settings represented by a row, specify the spacing between characters by double-clicking in this cell, and typing or selecting a value. Specify a percentage of the Width value. The value for Character spacing is updated automatically using the specified value.
Line spacing % For a group of font settings represented by a row, specify the spacing between lines of text by double-clicking in this cell, and typing or selecting a value. Specify a percentage of the Height value. The value for Line spacing is updated automatically using the specified value.
Add   Adds a row beneath a selected row in the Font Setting table.
Duplicate   Duplicates a selected row in the Font Setting table, and adds it below the selected row.
Delete   Deletes a selected row in the Font Setting table.
OK   The settings in the row that you select Font Setting table are applied to the relevant dialog, and the Font setting dialog is closed. The settings that you specify in the Font setting dialog are saved.
Cancel   Closes the Font setting dialog. Changes that have not been applied by clicking Apply or OK are not saved.
