Routing using the Add Route Command
The following procedure describes how to specify a route using the Add Route command, while pushing tracks and vias away. This command is only available in 2D View mode.
- Start the Routing command using one of the following procedures.
Starting the Command by Dragging an Object
Drag an unrouted net or a pin. If other multiple pins or nets are dragged, the Ctrl key must be pressed while they are dragged.
Starting the Command with Objects Selected
After selecting a target object, click Net / Route > Routing > Route or click Home > Add > Route on the ribbon.
Starting the Command Before Selecting Objects
- On the ribbon, click Net / Route > Routing > Route, or click Home > Add > Route.
- Select the target object. Multiple pins or nets can be selected by drawing a box around them.
- In the Add Route dialog, set Push aside to ON.
The functionality of the Push aside setting varies, depending on whether you select Activ-45, or one of the 45-degree, 90-degree or Free options in the Add Route dialog, Routing style box. It also varies if you are routing a trunk. See: Push aside.
- Specify positions on the canvas, and define a route. The route is displayed. If there are any other patterns, then push them away.
- Accept the routing pattern as follows.
- If Route to End is set to OFF in the Add Route dialog, then click on the target destination. To accept a partial route, click the Spacebar or select Finish on the assist menu.
- If Route to End is set to ON in the Add Route dialog, then click on the target destination, click the Spacebar or select Finish on the assist menu. To accept a partial route, click Finish Here on the assist menu.
- When manual routing in the 45-degree or 90-degree modes, automatic pin swapping is limited to 2 pin passive components only. For any part other than a 2 pin passive part, use the Swap Pins or Swap Gates command to swap the pins or gates.
- When attempting to add vias though an invisible layer: if Automatic repour is selected for a copper flooded template, then note the following.
- Vias cannot be added when trunk routing, or routing in Activ-45 mode.
- Vias can be added when routing using the 45-degree, 90-degree or Free modes.
Target objects
The following are valid target objects.
- Unrouted object.
- Object on a conductor layer.
- Padstack.
Assist menu
The following items can be selected by right-clicking the mouse:
Collect Next Virtual Branch Point
Search for Shortest Unrouted Net
Command dialog
If you create a layer exchange when routing a topology, then a Virtual Branch Point (VBP) will snap to the relevant via if within an appropriate distance from it. This occurs even if the topology is not completely routed.
