The Role of the Library in Schematic and PCB Design

The relationship is illustrated below between the library, and the schematic and PCB design. When you place a symbol on a schematic, a copy of the symbol is stored locally with the schematic data. You can also place a part on the schematic. In this case, its symbol and a copy of the properties relating to the part and footprint are stored locally. This local schematic information does not include the shapes that are associated with footprints. Local copies of the parts, footprints, design rules and PCB technology that are used in the design are automatically created within the PCB design data. As described in Library Editing Applications, you can edit these local copies of the design rules and PCB technology in eCADSTAR PCB Editor.
