eCADSTAR Schematic Editor: File Tab

The following commands can be accessed from the File tab in eCADSTAR Schematic Editor.

Group   Description
New   Displays the New dialog. This allows you to create a new design, specify its location and set the properties of the associated sheet.
Open   Allows you to open a schematic design by selecting it in the displayed Open dialog.
Note
  • In a non High Speed environment, if a High Speed design from an earlier version of eCADSTAR is upgraded when you open it, then any High Speed attributes in the design are made unavailable. If it is opened in a High Speed environment, then the High Speed attributes are made available.
  • eCADSTAR Schematic Editor and eCADSTAR Schematic Viewer versions 2020.0 to 2022.0 can be launched concurrently.
Save Design   Saves all modified schematic sheets in the current schematic design.
Save Design As   Allows you to save the current schematic design with a different name, and in an earlier version. All open sheets must be closed, or this command is made unavailable. Specify the location and name of the design in the displayed Save Design As dialog.
Note
  • If you execute this command in a High Speed design without a High Speed license, then any High Speed attributes are made unavailable in the created design. If you open the created design with a High Speed license, then they are made available.
  • Any simulation frames in the design are saved, regardless of whether a SPICE Controller license is found.
Save   Saves the active tab.
Close Design   Closes the current schematic design.
Close   Closes the active tab, and the tabs that are associated with it.

Workspace

Open

Allows you to open a saved workspace by browsing to a .ecw file in the displayed Open dialog. A new instance of eCADSTAR Schematic Editor is launched using the specified workspace, and the Start Page is displayed. All designs in this instance of eCADSTAR Schematic Editor are opened within the specified workspace. For more information on workspaces, see Using Workspaces.

  • All the saved application and environment settings that are associated with the workspace are loaded.
  • On the title bar of this instance of eCADSTAR Schematic Editor, the value {[workspace name]} is added before [Start Page]. This is illustrated below.
  • Recently-accessed workspaces are displayed in the RECENT WORKSPACES section on the Start Page in eCADSTAR Schematic Editor. You can remove an item from this section by right-clicking it and selecting Remove from Recent on the assist menu.

Note
Multiple workspaces can be used simultaneously in any eCADSTAR application.

 

Save

When using a workspace, changes that you make to the following areas are saved to the current workspace file. If no workspace is open, then this field is made unavailable.

  • For all eCADSTAR applications using a workspace, any changes to the workspace are synchronized immediately, regardless of whether the workspace has been saved.
  • Changes made in the Product Settings dialog are applied to all eCADSTAR applications, for the relevant workspace. All other changes are applied only to the relevant eCADSTAR application.

 

Save As

Allows you to save the current environment as a workspace by specifying the name and location of a workspace file. Specify these details in the displayed Save As dialog. This command is available regardless of whether you are using a workspace. A new instance of eCADSTAR Schematic Editor is launched using the specified workspace, and the Start Page is displayed. The settings in the following areas of eCADSTAR Schematic Editor are saved to the workspace file:

  • For all eCADSTAR applications using a workspace, any changes to the workspace are synchronized immediately, regardless of whether the workspace has been saved.
  • Changes made in the Product Settings dialog are applied to all eCADSTAR applications, for the relevant workspace. All other changes are applied only to the relevant eCADSTAR application.

 

Default

Allows you to select an existing workspace as the default environment. This field is available regardless of whether you are currently using a workspace. The selected workspace is used by all eCADSTAR applications when in "no workspace" mode. Browse to a .ecw file in the displayed Open dialog. When you specify a workspace file, a Warning dialog is displayed that prompts you to restart eCADSTAR Schematic Editor.

  • Click Yes to apply the workspace settings and restart eCADSTAR Schematic Editor.
  • Click No to apply the workspace settings without restarting eCADSTAR Schematic Editor. A Warning dialog is displayed that states that the default settings have been updated.
Note
If you click Default from within a workspace, the application will restart into "no workspace" mode. Any "none workspace" instances of eCADSTAR are not updated, and must be restarted.
Migration   Allows you to migrate a CADSTAR design or EDIF 200 design to eCADSTAR.
  CADSTAR Design Allows you to migrate a CADSTAR design to eCADSTAR. See CADSTAR Migration.
  EDIF 200 Allows you to migrate an EDIF 200 design to eCADSTAR Schematic Editor. See: EDIF 200 Migration.
Print   Displays the Print dialog. This allows you to print the data that is displayed on the canvas in eCADSTAR Schematic Editor.
Configuration Product Settings See: Product Settings
  Application Settings    Displays the Application Settings dialog. This allows you to specify the color of items that are previewed on the canvas, and set the position of property viewers. You can also configure settings for rotating, copying, pasting and deleting objects on the canvas. Synchronization, Reference Designator and backup options can be specified, and DRC and Check Mode settings can be configured.

Help Current Tool Help Displays the online Help for eCADSTAR.
  Check for Updates Allows you to check online for updates to eCADSTAR.
  About eCADSTAR Displays the version number of the relevant eCADSTAR. application. It also allows you to check online for updates to eCADSTAR.
Exit   Closes eCADSTAR Schematic Editor. If you have made any changes in eCADSTAR Schematic Editor, then you will be prompted to save them before the application closes.
