Specify Conductor Layer to Associate

The Specify Conductor Layer to Associate dialog allows you to specify the conductor layer (or layers) to be associated with a user-defined layer. It is displayed as follows:

  1. In the Technology Library Editor or Technology Editor dialog, click the Layer Configuration tab to display the Layer Configuration tree.
  2. Right-click a user-defined layer to associate with a conductor layer.
  3. On the assist menu, click Associate with Conductor Layer. Alternatively, click Associate Conductor in the Technology Library Editor or Technology Editor dialog.
Item Description
Conductor layer list A list of conductor layers in the design.
Layer type
  • Component keepout
  • Track & via keepout
  • Only via keepout
  • Only track keepout
  • Only via hole keepout
  • Other
Note
  • A track keepout area restricts the use of any surface-mount conductor object. This includes the following objects.
  • Pad/Padstacks
  • Route/Line
  • Area
  • Text

The only conductor objects that are not considered are plated through holes (vias or padstacks). You can configure track keepout areas in the Net Keepout Settings dialog. This allows you to specify the nets that are permitted in the relevant area.

  • A Via Keepout prevents a via being placed on a particular layer. A Via Hole Keepout prevents a via passing through the Dielectric layer below the layer. However, it can stop on that layer. Consequently, a Via Hole Keepout should not be added to the bottom layer of a design, as there is no Dielectric layer below the conductor layer.
  • It is strongly recommended that a particular user-defined layer is not assigned twice to the same conductor layer using both Other and keepout layer types.
Associate Associates the layer to the selected conductor layer, or layers.
Close Cancels the operation.
