Executing DRC

The following procedures describe how to use the DRC Command to detect objects that violate the design rules specified in the Rule Editor Dialog. To automatically check clearances while making changes to a design on the canvas, see Executing DRC while Editing a Design.

Checking Selected Objects

1. Configure the items for which you want the DRC Command to check. See: Setting DRC Items.

2. Start the DRC Command using one of the following methods.

Starting the Command with Objects Selected

1. After selecting an object, click Report > Design Rule Checking > DRC on the ribbon.
2. If Check objects is selected in the command dialog, then the item is checked and an error mark is shown at the relevant positions on the canvas.

Starting the Command before Selecting Objects

1. On the ribbon, click Report > Design Rule Checking > DRC.
2. Select Checkobjects in the command dialog.
3. Select an object. The item is checked, and an error mark is shown at the relevant positions on the canvas.

Target objects

The following are valid target objects:

• Routing pattern.
• Component.
• Figures on the solder resist layer.
• Figures on the symbol mark layer.
• Figures on the metal mask layer.
• Hole.
• Dimension line (excluding those in components).

Assist menu

The following item can be selected by right-clicking the mouse: Exit

Checking Objects on All layers, or on Active Layers

1. Configure the items for which you want the DRC Command to check. See: Setting DRC Items.
2. On the ribbon, click Report > Design Rule Checking > DRC.
3. To check only active layers, set the Select Only Active Layer button to ON in the status bar. Alternatively, click Home > Select > Select Only Active Layer on the ribbon.
4. Select Check design in the command dialog, and click Execute. Alternatively, click Execute on the assist menu. The whole area is checked, and an error mark is shown at the relevant positions on the canvas.

Target objects

The following are valid target objects:

• Routing pattern.
• Component.
• Figures on the solder resist layer.
• Figures on the symbol mark layer.
• Figures on the metal mask layer.
• Hole.
• Dimension line (excluding those in components).

The following items can be selected by right-clicking the mouse:
