Copy Symbol

Allows you to copy a symbol that you select in the Library Editor Panel: Symbols Tab. Symbols can be copied either within a library, or between different Libraries. The copying operation will also include Font definitions, Line Width Definitions and User Defined Attributes. These items from the source library will be merged with the target library, but any duplicated definitions will retain the original values from the target library.
This command is made available when the Symbol tab is selected in eCADSTAR Library Editor. Execute this command by selecting a symbol and then clicking Home > Copy > Symbol on the ribbon. Alternatively, select Copy symbol on the assist menu.

Paste the copied symbol in the Symbols table by selecting Paste on the assist menu, or by clicking Home > Clipboard > Paste on the ribbon. By default, it is pasted below the original. You can also specify its position in the table by clicking the required row before pasting it. This command is made available only when the Library Editor Panel: Symbols Tab is selected.

  • If it already exists in the destination library, then the new symbol is added with "Copy" appended to the name. Further name conflicts are resolved by appending a number to the name. For example "Copy1", "Copy2" etc.
  • Copy multiple symbols by selecting them using the Ctrl or Shift keys, or by dragging the cursor.
  • Delete rows in the Symbols table by selecting Delete Row on the assist menu.
  • Copied symbols are colored blue until you save the library.

Note
To copy a part and all related information to a different library, use the Copy Full Part command. This copies the associated pads, padstacks, footprints, symbols, layers and 3D models. However, if you copy a part between libraries using the Copy Part command, then you must also execute the following commands.
Copy Footprint (to include all relevant pads and padstacks).
Copy Symbol(to include the associated symbol, Font Definitions, Line Width Definitions and User Defined Attributes).
