Data Preparation for CADSTAR Template Designs

To migrate CADSTAR templates to eCADSTAR, they must be migrated as design archive files (*.csa and *.cpa). For each Schematic template, follow the procedure shown below.

1. Select File > Open and browse to C:\Users\Public\Zuken\CADSTAR 2018.0\Templates (using default install locations), or your preferred location for CADSTAR templates.
2. Select a Schematic template design and click Open. The design is launched into CADSTAR Design Editor.
3. Select File > Export, and set Schematic Archive, Whole Design, All Variants.
4. Click the Browse button, and select the migration directory that is defined during the preparation of the part library data.
5. Create a new folder directory and rename it to "Templates".
6. Enter the directory, and set the design export archive file to match the item being exported.
7. Click Save to apply the settings, and close the dialog.
8. Click OK to export the data.
9. Repeat for all Schematic templates that need to be migrated.

For each PCB template follow the procedure shown below.

1. Select a PCB template design, and click File > Open.
2. Browse to C:\Users\Public\Zuken\CADSTAR 2018.0\Templates (using default install locations), or your preferred location for CADSTAR templates.
3. Select a PCB template design and click Open. The design is launched into CADSTAR Design Editor.
4. Add a Board Outline to the template design using an Add Shape command. This is needed to ensure that the migration of the template design can complete. You do not have to save the board outline.
5. Select File > Export.
6. Set PCB Archive, All Variants.
7. Click the Browse button, and select the migration directory that is defined during the preparation of the part library data.
8. Create a new folder directory and rename it to "Templates".
9. Enter the folder directory, and set the design export archive file to match the item being exported.
10. Click Save to apply the settings and close the dialog.
11. Click OK to export the data.
12. Repeat for all PCB templates that need to be migrated.

The CADSTAR Template data preparation is now complete.
