Component Selector Panel

The Component Selector panel allows you to highlight and zoom in to components on the board that meet specified filter conditions. Toggle on the display of this panel by clicking Component Selector Panel Component Selector on the status bar. Alternatively, click View >Display > Component Selector Panel Component Selector on the ribbon. Components that meet the specified filter conditions are listed in the Reference Designatorlist box.

Select Condition Set

Item   Description
Condition name   The name that you specify in the Add dialog for the condition set. This dialog is displayed by clicking Add in the Component Selector panel. Select "---" in the Condition name box to restore the default filter conditions.
Description   The description that you specify in the Add dialog for the condition set. This dialog is displayed by clicking Add in the Component Selector panel.
Select Condition   Allows you to specify filter conditions for components.
  Reference designator filter Filters components by reference name. Wild cards (*, ?) can be used. See: Filtering Displayed Values in eCADSTAR Tables.
  Component type Filters components by component type. The following items can be selected.
  • None: no filtering is done for component types. All types of component are displayed.
  • Electrical: only electrical components are displayed.
  • Non-electrical: only non-electrical components are displayed.
  • Jumper: only jumpers are displayed.
  Placement status Filters components by placement status. The following items can be selected.
  • None: no filtering is done for placement status. Component are displayed regardless of their placement status.
  • Unplaced: only unplaced components are displayed. For guidance on adding an unplaced component to the canvas, see Placing Components.
  • Outside of board: components are only displayed if they are outside of the board.
  • In board: components are only displayed if they are on the board.
  Placement side Filters components by placement side. The following items can be selected.
  • None: no filtering is done for placement side. Component are displayed regardless of their placement side.
  • Side A: components are only displayed if they are on side A.
  • Side B: components are only displayed if they are on side B.
  Options Allows you to set advanced filter conditions. Components are listed that satisfy these conditions as well as the basic conditions shown above. These filter conditions are still valid if they are hidden by collapsing the Options group.
ItemDescription
Component group nameSelect a pre-defined group of components.
Number of pinsFilters components by the number of component pins.
  • Components are selected whose number of pins are within the range specified in the two boxes.
  • In each box, specify an integer between 0 and 1000,000.
Part nameFilters components by part name. Select a name from the box or type in a value. Wild cards (*, ?) can be used. See: Filtering Displayed Values in eCADSTAR Tables
Footprint nameFilters components by footprint name. Select a name from the box, or type in a value. Wild cards (*, ?) can be used. See: Filtering Displayed Values in eCADSTAR Tables.
Component heightFilters components by component height.
  • Components are selected that have a component height within the range specified in the two boxes.
  • In each box, specify a real number between 0.000 and 20000.000.
Key componentSelect components that have a connection with the specified component.
Variant componentAllows you to filter components to only show variant or non-variant components. The following items can be selected.
  • None: no filtering is done for variants. Both variant and non-variant components are displayed.
  • Variant: only variant components are displayed.
  • Non-variant: only non-variant components are displayed.
Add   Displays the Add dialog. This dialog allows you to specify the name and description of a condition set.
Overwrite   Updates the conditions that you specify in the Component Selector panel for the condition set that is selected in the Condition name box.
Rename   Allows you to rename the condition set that is selected in the Condition name box.
Delete   Deletes the condition set that is selected in the Condition name box.

Reference Designator list

Item   Description
Reference Designator list box   Lists the components on the board that meet the specified filter conditions.
Move on selection   Allows you to move the component that you select in the Reference Designator list section. The Move dialog is launched automatically when you select a component in this list. You can select multiple components using the Ctrl or Shift keys, or by dragging the cursor.
  Selected When you select a component in the Reference Designator list section, the Move dialog is displayed automatically. This allows you to move the component by specifying a position on the canvas. The Select next from list and Placement side fields are made available. You can select multiple components using the Ctrl or Shift keys, or by dragging the cursor.
  Not selected When you select a component in the Reference Designator list section, it is highlighted on the canvas. The Select next from list and Placement side fields are made unavailable. You can select multiple components using the Ctrl or Shift keys, or by dragging the cursor. If you execute the Move command, then you can move the components that you select in the Reference Designator list section.
Select next from list   Allows you to specify whether the next component in the Reference Designator list section is selected after you move a component. This field is made available when you select Move on selection.
  Selected The next component in the Reference Designator list section is selected after you move a component.
  Not selected The next component in the Reference Designator list section is not selected after you move a component.
Placement side   Allows you to specify the placement side from which the selected component is moved from.
  Selected The Placement side box is made unavailable. Specify the placement side from which the selected component is moved from.
  Not selected The Placement side box is made unavailable. The side of the currently-active conductor layer is set as the placement side.
Placement side box   This field is made available when you select Placement side. The following options can be selected.
  • Side A: the selected component is moved from side A.
  • Side B: the selected component is moved from side B.
Cross Probe Settings   Displays the Cross Probe section in the Design Settings dialog. For a selected component, this section allows you to specify its position and size on the canvas.

Select items using the following methods to display them on the canvas. The items that you select are highlighted and zoomed in on the canvas.

Operation Selection
Click Selects a single item.
Ctrl + click Toggles the selection of an item.
Shift + click Selects a range of items.
Drag the mouse Selects a range of components that starts where you click the mouse and ends where you release it.
Ctrl + A Selects all components in the Reference Designator list box.
"Up-arrow" key Selects the component that is directly above the currently-selected position.
"Down-arrow" key Selects the component that is directly below the currently-selected position.
