Creating a New Design Data File

The following procedure describes how to create a new design data file using the New (Design Data) dialog.

  1. On the File tab on the eCADSTAR PCB Editor ribbon, click New. The New (Design Data) dialog is displayed.
  2. Select the required number of layers in the Number of layers box. Values are displayed that are associated with the design rules in the technology library.
  3. In the Design rule box, select a design rule. The predefined technology name is displayed in the Technology Information field.
  4. Optionally, browse to an exported data resource file by clicking "..." by the Data resource box.
  5. Click Next. The Specify schematic section is displayed.
  6. Select either No Schematic or Schematic.
  7. No Schematic: do not specify a schematic.
  8. Schematic: specify a schematic file in the Schematic box. The schematic data set and the design rule list are extracted from the specified schematic file. Specify the schematic sheets that are used in the Sheet range and To boxes.
  1. Click Next. The Board outline/Layout area section is displayed.
  2. If required, select the method to create a board outline and layout area.
  • Create a board outline and layout area: select this check box to create a board outline and layout area on the canvas.
  • Creation method: select a creation method for the board outline and layout area.
  1. Width/height: specify values for Width [mm] and Height [mm].
  2. Copy from other design data: the Design data box is made available. Click "..." by the Design data box to browse to a design data file (*.pdes) to use as a template.
  1. Click Next. The Board created with the following settings section is displayed.
  2. Click Finish.
  3. If problems are detected when creating the design data, error or warning information is displayed in the New (Design Data) dialog. Click Close to close the dialog and create the design data.
  4. If the specified technology information contains powerplanes, the Powerplane settings dialog is automatically displayed.
  5. Specify a net to assign to each powerplane by clicking "..." in the Net assigned to powerplane column. The Select Net dialog is displayed.
  6. Click OK in the Powerplane settings dialog. The new design data is created.
