Customizing the Ribbon

This topic describes how to edit the tabs on an eCADSTAR ribbon.

Adding a Custom Tab

You can add a new tab to the ribbon from the Ribbon Settings dialog, as follows.

  1. Click Customize the Ribbon on the assist menu of the ribbon. The Ribbon Settings dialog is displayed.
  2. From the Select command list, select a class of commands to be listed.
  3. Click the New tab button. (Alternatively, click New tab in the assist menu.) New tab (User settings) and New group are added to the Custom tabs field, in this hierarchical order.
  4. Click the New group button. (Alternatively, click New group in the assist menu.) New group is added to the Custom tabs field.
  5. Select the command from the Select command list, that you want to add to Custom tabs, and click Add Add. The command is added below the line that is currently selected in Custom tabs. You can narrow down the commands displayed in the Command table by entering a string in Command filter. If you select, and add a tab or group, that is displayed in a tree hierarchy, then you can collectively add hierarchies under the tab or group. Commands that are displayed in a tree hierarchy cannot be narrowed down by the command filter. See: Filtering Items in the Command list.
  1. When you have finished customizing, click OK in the Ribbon Settings dialog to close it.

Note
  • Tabs that you created using Customize the Ribbon appear in the display language that is applied when you created them. As a result, custom tabs that are created in Japanese will appear in Japanese, even in English-language environments.
  • For a command that is added to a custom tab, the displayed label is copied when it is placed. To display a new label, when switching language environments or when changing the label for the user command, you must add the button again.
  • If the rule priority has been configured so that the definition file for the user environment ribbon is disabled, then the Customize the Ribbon item is made unavailable.

Editing a Custom Tab

Edit a custom tab that you added, as follows.

  1. To edit the display name of a tab, group or command under Custom tabs, click the Edit button. (Alternatively, click Edit in the assist menu.) The following items can be set for a command.

  2. Click Save as in the Ribbon Settings dialog. File Selector opens.
  3. In the File Selector, specify the file in which to save the ribbon settings, and click Save. By default, the settings are saved in the ribbon.xml file.

Note
You cannot import the exported file into the Ribbon Settings dialog. However, any settings specified in the dialog can be moved between different instances or versions of eCADSTAR, and between users.
  1. In the %APPDATA% folder in Windows Explorer, locate the ribbon.xml file for the relevant user. This contains the latest changes made in the Ribbon Settings dialog.
  2. Copy the file, and replace the relevant instance in the %APPDATA% folder. The copied settings are added to the dialog.
