For a part that you select in the Library Editor or Part Editor, the Symbol Editor allows you to edit the symbol associated with it. Select a row in Library Editor, and then click Home > Edit > Symbol to launch the Symbol Editor. Alternatively, right-click a row in Library Editor, and select Edit Symbol on the assist menu. In Part Editor, select a value in the Symbols section of the Detail tab and click Home > Edit > Symbol on the ribbon. Alternatively, right-click a value and select Edit symbol on the assist menu. The following tabs are available on the Symbol Editor ribbon.

| File Tab | Allows you to save and print the currently-displayed symbol in Symbol Editor. It also allows you to configure general settings for eCADSTAR Library Editor. |
| Home Tab | Allows you to configure the symbol that is currently displayed on the canvas. |
| Draw Tab | Provides a range of drawing tools that allow you to edit the currently-displayed symbol, and add text to it. |
| View Tab | Allows you to display various panels and dialogs in Symbol Editor, as well as configure the display options for tabs in eCADSTAR Library Editor. Commands are also provided for viewing items on the canvas in Symbol Editor. |
The Object Selection Filter box on the status bar allows you to define an object type before selecting objects on the canvas. Only the type of object that you specify in the box can be selected on the canvas. The following types of object can be selected.

| Main Object | If selected, then all objects can be selected on the canvas. |
| Property Viewer | Allows you to click on a property viewer to select it on the canvas. |
| Symbol Pin | Allows you to select only pins on the symbol. |
| Shape/Figure | Allows you to select a shape or text that you add to the canvas, including symbol outlines. The following objects can be selected.
